Books

The Medical Library holds the main collection of print books, journals and other resources for biomedical sciences. The print collections are arranged according to the Cunningham classification scheme. As well as print books, the Library also provides access to many ebooks.

If Resource Lists are available for your unit, you'll find a link in Blackboard. Resource lists link directly to ebooks and also show you where to find print copies. The Library provides access to all the essential, recommended and further reading highlighted in your reading lists.

You can also Library Search to look for books. You can search by words from the title, author's name or  topic. Use the filters on the left to narrow your search down to books, a particular library location or to e-books. More help and guidance with using Library Search is available on this page.

If you feel that the collection is missing a key item you need then please let us know via this form. Your recommendations are always welcome.

Molecular Biology of the Cell

'Molecular Biology of the Cell', Seventh Edition has been extensively revised and updated with the latest research in cell biology.  It describes the current understanding of cell biology and includes basic biochemistry, experimental methods for investigating cells, the properties common to most eukaryotic cells, the expression and transmission of genetic information, the internal organization of cells, and the behaviour of cells in multicellular organisms.

Principles of Neural Science, Sixth Edition

Principles of Neural Science, 6th Edition is the definitive guide for neuroscientists, neurologists, psychiatrists, students, and residents. Highly detailed chapters on stroke, Parkinson's, and MS build your expertise on these critical topics.

Costanzo Physiology

Costanzo Physiology, 7th Edition, retains the step-by-step, to-the-point approach that makes this text ideal for coursework and USMLE preparation. It offers a comprehensive and consistent overview of core physiologic concepts at the organ system and cellular levels, making complex principles easy to understand. Contains new coverage of SARS CoV-2 physiology, renal handling of uric acid, delta/delta analysis in acid-base physiology, endolymph physiology, respiratory distress syndrome, compensatory bronchiolar constriction, and more.

Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics

This all-round textbook covers basic pharmacology through to drug prescribing in clinical contexts, covering the pathogenic mechanisms of disease; drug actions, side effects, and the therapeutic principles of drug use. It takes a helpful systems-based approach that orders information according to body systems and disease areas, rather than by drug class. Now in its sixth edition, the book has been fully updated to include latest scientific understanding of drug action and administration and current best practice in prescribing medications, informed by the latest national guidelines.  Comprehensive drug compendia allow all drugs to be identified and placed within their respective classes.

Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology

This textbook bridges basic physiology with pathophysiology. Focuses on core material and how the body maintains homeostasis to remain healthy. Features expanded clinical coverage including obesity, metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and other degenerative diseases.

Carpenter's Neurophysiology

Integrating the disciplines of neurology and neuroscience with an emphasis on principles and functional concepts, this comprehensive textbook covers the entire subject of neurophysiology, from the conduction of nerve impulses to the higher functions of the brain. Key Features: Everything the student of medicine or physiology needs to understand neurophysiology. Blends the principles of neuroscience with clinical manifestations with a particular focus on proprioception, skin sense and hearing, including developments in cochlear implants, and functional MRI. An integrated introduction to the challenging disciplines of neuroscience and neurology.
