Referencing

Referencing correctly will improve the quality of your academic work and help you avoid accidental plagiarism.

Take a look at the library's guide to referencing which covers why, when and how to reference your sources:

There are a variety of reference managers available. You should choose one based on whether it supports the writing platform you will use. At the University of Bristol, we support EndNote and Mendeley, which are well integrated into key tools such as Word and Overleaf, but there are others.

There are many different referencing styles, and it is important to ensure that you are following style guidelines in your assignments. Check with your tutor if you are not sure which style you should be using.

The Cite Them Right website is the key resource if you have questions about referencing and covers a range of different referencing styles:

EndNote

undefined

Use EndNote reference management software to collect, store, organise and import references into your work.

Mendeley

Use Mendeley reference management software to collect, store, organise and import references into your work.

What is BibTeX?

BibTeX is commonly used with LaTeX to help organise references and create a bibliography. Each reference in the bibliography file (.bib) is formatted with a certain structure and is given a 'key' by which you refer to in the source .tex file. All major reference managers work with BibTeX.
